From Interview to First Shift: How We Support New Starters Every Step of the Way

Starting a new job in care can feel daunting — especially if it’s your first time in the sector. At CareStaff24, we completely understand. That’s why we’ve created a simple, supportive onboarding process to help you feel confident and comfortable from day one.

Whether you’re returning to work after a break, changing careers, or starting fresh, here’s what you can expect when you join our care team.

Step 1: Your Interview — Friendly, Not Formal

We don’t do stuffy interviews. Our initial chat is a chance to get to know you — your experience, availability, and the kind of care work that would suit your lifestyle. You can ask us anything, and we’ll walk you through how everything works.

“I was nervous at first, but it felt more like a conversation than an interview. I left feeling excited to start!” — Emma, Care Assistant

Step 2: Your Onboarding Pack — Everything You Need

Once you’re offered a role, we’ll send you a welcome pack with all the info you need. This includes:

We’ll also support you with your DBS check and references — no stress, we’ll guide you through it.

Step 3: Paid Training & Shadowing

Before you go out on your own, you’ll complete essential training — including safeguarding, infection control, manual handling, and more. We offer online CPD modules and in-person refreshers to keep things flexible.

Next, you’ll shadow an experienced carer on real visits. This gives you a chance to see how things work, meet clients, and build your confidence at your own pace.

“Shadowing was so helpful — I learned more in those two days than I could’ve from a manual.” — Josh, Support Worker

Step 4: Your First Shift — We’re With You

Your first official shift won’t be a solo mission. We’ll check in with you before and after, make sure you’ve got everything you need, and match you with clients who suit your strengths.

You’ll also have access to our on-call team 24/7. If anything feels unclear, you’re never alone — just give us a ring.

Step 5: Ongoing Support & Progression

Starting a new job is just the beginning. We offer regular supervision, top-up training, and opportunities to grow — whether that’s into a senior carer role or a specialist support position.

You’ll also be part of our care community — invited to team events, updates, and reward schemes for your work.

“It’s not just a job — they genuinely care about you and make you feel valued.” — Lorraine, Homecare Worker
